Shape is the outline of the stone when you look at it from above. It is a matter of taste, but each shape also behaves differently in sparkle, size and how it sits on the hand.
Round
The classic. Its 58 facet layout gives the most brilliance of any shape.
Oval
An elongated outline that looks larger for its weight and makes fingers look longer.
Cushion
Soft corners and a pillow-like outline. A romantic, vintage feel with a lot of fire.
Elongated cushion
A cushion stretched into a rectangle. Modern, with more finger coverage than a standard cushion.
Pear
A teardrop with one point. It can be worn point up or down and has a graceful, distinctive look.
Emerald
Long step-cut facets give a clean, glassy look. Clarity is easy to see, so choose a clean stone.
Princess
A square outline with sharp corners and strong sparkle. Corners are exposed, so prong settings help protect them.
Radiant
A rectangle with trimmed corners and brilliant-style facets. Strong sparkle with a sturdier outline.
Marquise
A long, pointed oval that maximizes the look of size.
